Telemedicine Visit Appointments Available
at Orthopaedic Associates of Wisconsin
Our #1 priority is the safety and well-being of our patients and staff. During COVID-19, Telemedicine has become more prevalent, offering a safe and convenient way for patients to be seen by our Orthopaedic Specialists at Orthopaedic Associates of Wisconsin (OAW). Telemedicine at OAW offers both phone & video visits for a variety of appointment types, including non-emergent, imaging review, surgical discussions, and some surgical follow-up appointments from the comfort of your home.
OAW started offering Telemedicine visits to patients in April 2020 due to the heightened concern for patients unable to attend in-person appointments due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Telemedicine has proven to be an adjunct to our offering of in-person appointments.
Benefits of Telemedicine Visits
OAW offering Telemedicine to our patients is a convenient and safe way for our patients to be evaluated and treated. It allows patients who do not live locally to connect with our Orthopaedic Specialists, in addition to providing a quick, convenient way to connect with OAW without needing to take off additional time from school or work.
Conditions appropriate for Telemedicine
A variety of conditions can be treated utilizing Telemedicine; however, Telemedicine is not appropriate for urgent/emergent conditions. If your condition is urgent/emergent, please dial 911. Due to the limitations of Telemedicine, your Orthopaedic Specialist may first discuss your condition via Telemedicine and if determined that imaging, lab work, and/or other testing is required, the referrals will be placed. In addition, your Orthopaedic Specialist may determine that your condition is best-suited to be seen in-person at one of our clinic locations.
Telemedicine can be utilized for:
- Acute (new) conditions
- Chronic (prolonged) conditions
- Imaging review
- Surgical discussion
- Second opinion
- Surgical follow-up
Insurance coverage of Telemedicine visits
It is best to check with your insurance plan to determine Telemedicine benefits, as many medical insurance plans have extended Telemedicine coverage during the COVID-19 pandemic.
