Comments: Orthopedic Associates of WI has been a lifesaver for the chronic sciatica that I was living with for nearly 8 months.
This past spring I had two epidural steroid injections at Orthopedic Associates of WI administered by Dr. Vo. They helped me to get 50% better and be able to work through a couple of big events I had coming up. The ESI's wore off after a couple of months and my sciatica persisted. In July of this year I had a follow up visit with Dr. Vo at that time he said a third ESI most likely wouldn't do much at this point in time, and asked if I wanted to speak with a surgeon. I appreciated his honesty, kindness and smiling demeaner. To my surprise I was able to see the surgeon that very same morning within 15 minutes of my visit with Dr. Vo.
Dr. Paul Johnson was very kind and pleasant, and also understanding of the toll sciatica takes on your mental and physical well being. He said after looking at my MRI, the fact that conservative treatment had failed the best option was a minimally invasive microdiscectomy.
I agreed as I had exhausted all other options and wanted my life back. 5 weeks after my visit the surgery was scheduled.
The staff at the surgery center was efficient, and kind. My favorite person was one of the nurses, Gina. She had a quirky sense of humor and really put me at ease while I was waiting for the surgical staff and surgery to happen.
The anesthesiologist was pleasant with a good sense of humor as well. The OR nurse was also quite pleasant, they really made me feel safe going into the surgery.
Once the first set of drugs to calm me and put me to sleep set in (in about 1 minute) I was asleep and then next thing I know I am awake in the waiting area. Surgery was a breeze, the nurses helped get me up and going. Surgery was at 7:30 that morning and I was leaving the facility by 11:15 AM that morning. They were efficient, professional and kind.
Specifically to my surgeon Dr. Johnson, he has been helpful, kind and listens to my concerns. During the first weeks of recovery I needed some extra medication to help calm the nerve, and they are working. Along with his suggestion to start PT I am on my way to recovery. I feel that the confidence Dr. Johnson displays in his abilities and my abilities as a patient is what has helped me through this difficult time of healing and recovery.

One suggestion for Orthopedic Associates of WI is to have a detailed guide for patients of what to expect during the recovery plus some helpful tips for the first weeks of recovery. That is really my only criticism that more after care information would have been helpful.
